The eye

Simple means taking away what is extra until only the essential remains.

An apple is simple. A cloud is simple. Try painting one.

What we believe

We believe a wedding isn't directed: it's felt. It is already beautiful before the camera arrives, in hands that find each other, in a voice that breaks halfway through a promise, in the embrace no one rehearsed. Our part is simply to be there: close enough for our eyes to well up, quiet enough that no one notices us.

So we don't ask you to repeat the kiss or gaze at the horizon. We prefer real sound (a laugh, a "don't cry or you'll make me cry", the clink of glasses) to any song that covers it up. What we deliver is cinema in its simplest sense: images in order that tell something true.

§ 01Where we learned to look

We learned to look somewhere else.

First lesson

Look twice

The first time you see what happens; the second, what it means. The shoes waiting by the door, the coffee someone let go cold from nerves, the ring the grandmother keeps turning without noticing. The extraordinary almost always arrives dressed as something ordinary.

Second lesson

Memory moves in leaps

No one remembers their wedding from beginning to end. Memory jumps from one moment to the next: from a laugh to a hand squeezing another, from a half-sung song to a silence. That's how we edit: following what is felt, not what the clock says.

Third lesson

What doesn't fit in the frame

Every wedding holds a wish the day can't quite contain: that this lasts forever. That longing says we were made for something larger than ourselves. It can't be filmed, but it can be let in, like light through a window.

§ 02Who films
Portrait to come

Fig. 1

Behind the camera.

A director and a small documentary crew.

[Draft, pending your real story] My name is Carlos Agudelo. For years I did what was expected: asking for poses, repeating entrances, putting music over everything. One day I stopped asking and started watching.

The best of a wedding is almost never on the schedule: it's in the grandfather who dozes off at the party, in the vows someone forgets and finishes in their own words. That is where Visual Simple Films was born. We are few on purpose: that way we fit in any room without anyone noticing.

Being in love first moved them to promise fidelity: this quieter love enables them to keep the promise.
